There was no surprise when I asked my son what he wanted to do for his 9th birthday… GO FISHING. Our memories of this last summer were all about catching and releasing. We would load up the truck and head out to different fishing spots every week. I wasn’t quite sure at first how to approach this theme with a bunch of rambunctious boys. I didn’t know how many boys had fishing poles and even if they knew how to fish. There would be a few at least because one mother recommended using Raise to get a decent discount on poles, though I still wasn’t sure how many had taken her up on it. I decided the best way to celebrate was to caravan down to my parents house who have a pool and a running river behind their house. This location was perfect! Even if only a few boys brought poles the pool and the river would help ensure no boy felt left out of the fun.
