The decor ideas are really cute. But I wouldn’t put food items in the rolls if they were previously used in the bathroom. The spray from the toilet has been misting them for the length of time they’ve been in the room and they’re covered in bacteria. There is really no way to kill it without further making it impossible to hold food items. Even if they’re wrapped.
I’m not convinced that the toilet “misting” the cardboard is worse than it “misting” people’s toothbrushes several times a day. I take my toothbrush out of the bathroom because I don’t trust others to close the lid before they flush, but I don’t think I’d bat an eye at sealed candy/food inside a tp roll. It’s a good reminder for anyone with germaphobic concerns but for the average person the typical amount of bacteria does not exceed scale that would contaminate pre-sealed food (like a snack size m&m baggie). This topic just serves as a powerful reminder to wash hands often, especially any time before you eat!
I agree M and, – there are now disinfectant wipes that I often wipe over surfaces of my books covers especially cookbooks and craft books. Have for years. I also do this on purses and wallets or belts that are of a material that won’t be damaged. The wipes are bleachless so never seen damage to any of these types of items. Oft played cds and recipe box, things like that are quickly wiped and give me piece of mind that I can reduce germs and bacteria. Kept in the bathroom – I often wipe off towel bars, toilet seat and lid and especially faucet handles in both bathroom and kitchen. Remember too if you were to lightly wipe the tubes then are gluing fresh paper over – c’mon can’t be worse than recycling cards and envelopes, old magazines etc. Just my thoughts 🙂
We use empty toilet paper tubes as fire starters. We stuff them tightly with our shredded old papers and advertisements we get in the mail, and crimp the ends and they light easily, and great for camping or a fireplace or pit!

I agree. Paper towel rolls are a much cleaner option, especially when associated with food!

Those little crowns are just adorable!
We love crafting with cardboard tubes. Can’t wait to try out the crowns.

I read that microwaving the tubes first would kill bacteria for those who worry about germs. I don’t own a microwave but it may help some people.
